DIY Patio Makeover

Tuesday, March 30, 2021

Another thing I love about spring time cleaning, is that it makes you want to change things up. On a random Saturday afternoon, my husband came into our room and asked me if I wanted to go with him to Home Depot for a price check on something... little did I know, he had a whole idea in mind. His vision was to change our patio to an "outside vibe" He transformed our patio in 2 days and I am in love with it. We spent less than $600 for EVERYTHING.

Artificial Grass & Outside Screen Roller Shades

For the artificial grass, be sure to measure because it can get pricey.
Our patio was measured at 8ft by 12ft and it was about $160. We had a little bit left at the trim, but not too much. We also purchased some roller shades. I love this because as you can see in the picture below there isn't that much privacy when are neighbors are walking by or drivers passing through. That was another reason why I never really sat out on my patio but with this roller screen I can sit outside without anyone really knowing AND block the sun.

Before picture of our screen

Installing the Roller Shades

After Installation :)

On the bottom part of the screen, my husband found a "Weed Blocker"(Not Pictured) and taped it underneath. That will prevent dirt from coming in.

Hubby wanted to mount a TV on the wall for whenever we want to watch a movie outdoors.

The girls didn't waste anytime lol.

We got our patio set from Big Lots. Very inexpensive and a huge variety of furniture pieces to choose from. We are still going to add a few more touches, but this is what we have for now and I am loving it.

Are there any home improvement ideas you may want to tackle during this season? if so, let me know.

How To Be An Effective Mother To Daughters

Thursday, March 25, 2021

Okay, let me start off by saying I have two girls. ( HELP) lol. First and foremost, if it wasn't for them, I don't know how hard I would've gone for anything. They inspire me everyday to do better and to take smart risks that WILL pay off. Raising girls is very very hard and whoever told you that it isn't, is lying to you lol. It doesn't necessarily mean that its hard raising girls because they are bad, it's more so making sure we teach them the importance of womanhood, self worth, values, and the list goes on. Everyone obviously has different parenting skills. So take what you need and leave what you don't.

Tell your daughters the truth about society

I'm sorry, but I am not the type of mother that hides things from my girls. I tell them the truth about everything that I feel is age appropriate or I explain it on the level of their age. For example, in our household we speak a lot about racial injustice and how it is so unfortunate that my girls are in a society where they have to work twice as hard because of the color of their skin. I tell my girls that they can be WHATEVER they want to be and to not take no shit from anyone. I see so many people are comfortable with talking crazy nowadays. We watch the news together, The protests on television, and my husband is always watching a documentary and I want my girls to know that this world is not peaches and cream. When we see a homeless person on the street, the girls always asks myself or my husband why they live on the street and we tell them it can be many factors and it can easily be us as well if we don't do what we need to do.

Spend quality time with them

Quality time can easily mean laying on the bed together and watching a show, playing a game or even watching Tik Tok with them lol. Once in a while, I would have a "girls day" with them (if they behave) and I would pay for us all to get our nails done and get Starbucks. (my girls are divas). Letting them vent about friendship problems or just being plain emotional is making them feel confident and safe coming to talk to you. Going for walks is also ideal too. With my oldest, I get all the tea lol.

Pray On Them
My girls know that I am always praying for them or praying on them. I am constantly blessing them with sage and speaking good things on their lives. Moms. it is vital that we pray on our daughters especially in a crazy world as this. Make sure you are praying over them 24/7.

Always Say, "I Love You"
Make it a habit to say "I love you" one thing I can say about our family, we ALWAYS say those words. I want my girls to know that both mommy and daddy love them unconditionally. Sometimes, that's all a kid wants to hear for reassurance.

DISCIPLINE
Don't  listen to anyone that tells you NOT to discipline your child(ren). In my household we serve the Lord and butt whoopings lol. Ever heard the saying "spare the rod and spoil the child" my point exactly. If you don't put your daughters in place at a young age, they will grow up doing God knows what. Thankfully, I do not have to spank my girls all time.

Having a daughter is having a permanent best friend for life. If you ever feel like you are not a good mom, shift your mindset and know that if you feel bothered by that, then that means YOU ARE A GOOD MOM. If you didn't care, you wouldn't think about it. There are many different strategies to be an effective mom to daughters. This is what works for me and my girls... There could be other tips that can work for you.

Stepping Into Spring

Tuesday, March 23, 2021

It's officially Spring time and I am excited to shop around for some more plant babies. I had no clue about the benefits of certain plants that can be beneficial to our health and household. I never thought in a million years that I would call myself a Plant Mom  but here I am a mom of two lol. Since it is Spring Time, and if you are like me, you will be doing some "Spring Cleaning" around your home and most likely getting some new decor. Adding some real greenery in your space will really make a difference, not just for aesthetic purposes, but for a whole energy shift. Before I even purchased my first plant which is my baby "Bella" she is a Snake Plant I dd some real research. For one, I need plants that require low maintenance and two, I need something that will help with good vibes in my household. My home is my sanctuary and plants just gives a vibe that makes you feel chill and positive. They say plants boosts your mood, productivity, and so forth. They also say that plants reduce stress and fatigue, but most importantly... it cleans toxins that is in the air.  What more can you want?

What should your first plant be?

I think everyone's first plant should be a snake plant. However, everyone is not the same. It's all up to you and the vibes you get when you go to purchase one. I went to Home Depot to get my plants. The sales associate in the garden department was very knowledgeable and taught me a few things I had no clue about. I know this might sound funny, but I talk life into my plants. I speak them affirmations honey... An example would be "Flourish girl...You Got This" or "Look at you growing oh so beautifully" my actual kids look at me crazy lol.

I went ahead and purchased a new baby because I feel like Bella needed a sister. She is a Raven ZZ Plant and I named her "Lizzy" what attracted me to this beauty was the black and green leaves. Like come on those aesthetics alone is life.... I can't wait to see how she grows. The sales associate also told me that this plant is known for good luck and good fortune... fingers crossed. lol

These beauties caught my eye and they will definitely make it to my outside garden one day.

What are some plants that you recommend? What are your favorite plants?

Breaking The Family Cycle

Sunday, March 21, 2021

Breaking cycles is VERY important to me. I want my children to have more and do more than I did. I am pretty sure that is every parent's hopes and dreams for their child(ren). Sadly, some people are so broken from their families past that it effects the families that they create. There are no perfect families and I am not going to pretend like there is. Everyone has their situation. There is a point in your life where you reflect and want to make that change. First things first, that change happens within you. What do I mean? I am saying that you must look at yourself and ask the following questions... 1) What don't I like about my current situation with family and can it be fixed? 2) What am I willing to allow and not allow?

HOW TO BREAK THE CYCLE?
ACKNOWLEDGE that there is something going on and if it's worth fixing, I say start the process of mending relationships. Sometimes, the situations can be so toxic that it is hard to even speak to that family member. If that's the case for you, I suggest acknowledging it BUT also being okay with letting go. That will be hard but just meditate and pray on it. God will be in the center of it all. Another suggestion if you fall into that situation is to jot down everything that person said or did and  just read them out loud in your journal and for a few days, jot down your feelings and moods.

Breaking The Cycle With Children
What we do with our kids is tell them the truth about everything. I do not want my girls growing up thinking that the world is all peaches and cream and that things will be easy for them if they just go to school and work. My parents always instilled school as a pathway to everything and that without it, life will be hard. My parents never talked to me about racism and entrepreneurship, credit, stocks etc. Coming from an old school Haitian household, All we knew was school and church. Even with church, I felt like the church we attended was just for the money and worshipping statues and images. Thankfully, in MY parent's household, I didn't have any issues but I knew that once I created my own family, I was going to let them know that they are more than a degree or being someone's employee. My daughters are 6 and 11...They know about stocks and saving money...This new generation has nothing but entrepreneurs and I love it.

Don't Feel Bad
I am sorry to be so harsh but your family members are people too... We don't choose our family. There's family(relatives) that I don't talk with, there are some that has never met my kids and husband. Sometimes, it's best to just let some go... Especially if its messing around with your energy. If you heard your parents complain about their parents and so forth and you see the drama unfolding once again, then yes you can break it. It takes Discipline and a strong mindset. The beauty of it, is that you can create your own life without the drama and live in peace and tranquility. If you created your own family, then you can build your family the way you and your significant other wants. You got this!

Disney Trip 2021 (Here's What You Need To Know Before You Visit)

Monday, March 15, 2021 Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830, USA

Spring Break is FINALLY here. Last year, everything was shut down and we all were stuck at home. Here we are a year later, and this virus is still around however, it's not stopping people from going out and enjoying themselves. (With caution). A few days ago, my family and I decided to take a trip to Orlando and go to Disney World. Let's just say it was very different, but we enjoyed ourselves nonetheless. In this blog, I will tell you a few things to expect if you decide to go to Disney real soon.

VERY IMPORTANT...Download the Disney World App as well as the Magic Guide App. Disclaimer: I am not an annual pass holder, so I'm not sure if there is a different protocol to getting into the parks.

(Disney World App) This is where you will purchase your tickets. Due to Covid and their restrictions, they are only accommodating half of capacity than usual. So along with your ticket purchase, you must reserve your spot and EVERYONE in your party. If you purchase a ticket without a reservation, you will not be able to go into the park. So please be mindful and remember to book your tickets AND reservations. For reassurance, I would call customer service and have them double check that everything is good to go.

Also, On this App you will also make food reservations. You are no longer able to just walk into a restaurant and order food. You will click on "Mobile Food Orders" and find the restaurant that you and your party would like to eat at. Remember, not all restaurants are open either. On the app, you will find an open for business restaurant and order your meal(s). You will choose the time that you want to pick up your food and pay on the app. You will get notified when your food is being prepared and when it is ready for pickup. You will also have to show the worker at the door your confirmation because that is the only way you will get in. You have a choice to either dine in or not but just remember it's on a first come first serve basis... there can be a possibility that there are no available tables.

(Magic Guide App) This app is a lifesaver. It shows you a map for ALL of the 4 parks. The dates and hours they are open, Restaurants that are open and closed (even the ones at Disney Springs), and best of all the WAIT TIMES for the rides. This came in handy for us because if you didn't know, the "Fast Pass" is currently suspended until further notice. The Fast Pass is a system in which you would reserve your access to rides at the parks with shorter line wait times than those who do not have fast passes with longer line wait times. So with this app, It can tell us how long the wait time is per attraction ride. This helps big time.

These are the cards we used to enter the park. Each member of your party needs one. This is your "Ticket AND Reservation" that I talked about earlier. If you don't want the cars, you can purchase theMagic Bands which will give you the same access to everything as the cards. You can also customize them. I am not too certain of all of the perks, but, I do know you automatically receive one if you are an annual pass holder.

A Few of Our Favorite Rides

Extra Tips To Know
If you book at one of the Disney Resorts, We booked at the Hilton Buena Vista Palace  You will be able to use the shuttle bus that will take you to any of the parks, just make sure to grab a bus schedule for the dates and times. We used the Shuttle Bus service and it was a great experience. The bus was comfortable, AC was blowing, and they played a Disney Movie.
(Our view of Disney Springs from the 10th floor)

Also, Disney is VERY Strict about wearing masks. If they find you without a mask on, you will be asked to leave. There are "Relaxation Stations" where you are allowed to remove your masks to eat or drink (Must be stationary) with social distancing of course. Sn: Masks are to be worn EVEN when you are taking pictures and the characters are NOT walking around like they use too. You may see one or two in a secluded area where they allow you to just wave or take a far away picture.

We had a great time at Disney's Magic Kingdom and will definitely go back and visit the other parks. I hope this blog helped you plan your trip accordingly.

Positivity Tips and Tricks

Friday, March 5, 2021

One thing I know that is hard to do and I am pretty sure you all agree with me, is that being positive is a challenge. It's a mindset that we have to work on shifting all of the time. I am still working on shifting my mindset to be positive because let's face it, we all have things or situations that we are dealt with. However, I have found ways that may help with switching up the negative vibes and I hope that they can also work for you :)....

First things first, find out what triggers your energy. Think of it as an. "AA"meeting. The first thing an addict needs to do is address their addiction and accept it, that is only when they can work on changing. So think of what triggers your vibes when you get into that negative mindset. Once you figure it out, then you can find different strategies to implement into your lifestyle, that can help maintain your positive energy.

Let Things/People Go
I know it sounds harsh but sometimes, you have to let things or people go. If you are following someone on social media and you feel a negative vibe from them or maybe you feel like you are being negative when you see their posts...I think it's time for you to let that go sis. The same thing applies to people in real life. Friends and family can also be toxic.. ALWAYS remember that. Other things that you may feel like you need to let go could be your job, your environment, and the list goes on. I have a post talking about "Comparison"  which also correlates to vibes...Click Here to read it.

Mediate and Thank God for His Blessings
I can't stress this enough... I have so many blog posts talking about meditating and being grateful. You will not truly be in a positive head space until you practice these two strategies faithfully. Giving thanks and showing God how grateful you are puts things in a different perspective for you. No need to purchase apps for meditating...Go on Youtube and type in "mediation for beginners"

Surround Yourself With Positive People
Another way you can remain positive, is by being around people that will elevate and motivate you. You ever heard the quote "You are who you hang out with" EXACTLY!

These are my top three strategies that I follow and they have been working for me. As I stated before, It is hard to remain positive when life throws lemons but guess what? Use what you have and make you some lemonade.

I hope these strategies will help you... Always remember... Positive Vibes Only!! My eBook is still available on Amazon. Click here You Got This Girl!
